"Sharp Dressed Man" is a popular song by the band ZZ Top, featured in their 1983 album, Eliminator. The song was expertly produced by their manager, Bill Ham, and recorded and mixed by Terry Manning. Linden Hudson, the pre-production recording engineer, played a significant role in the early stages of the song's creation.
This track is notable for its outstanding guitar solo, which was recognized by Guitar World, ranking 43rd on their list of the 50 Greatest Guitar Solos in 2009.
The music video for "Sharp Dressed Man" is part of a series, following the storyline from the band's previous video, "Gimme All Your Lovin'," and concluding with "Legs." In the video, a parking valet undergoes a dramatic transformation into a star, courtesy of three women arriving in the iconic Eliminator car. The band members entrust him with the car keys, marking his newfound stardom.
Directed by Tim Newman, who also directed "Gimme All Your Lovin'" video, the creation of the "Sharp Dressed Man" video faced initial reluctance from Warner Bros. Records. However, Jeff Ayeroff, a record executive at Warner Bros., persuaded the label to invest more funds into the production, ensuring the video's high quality.
Clean shirt, new shoes
And I don't know where I am goin' to
Silk suit, black tie,
I don't need a reason why
They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man
Gold watch, diamond ring,
I ain't missin' not a single thing
Cufflinks, stick pin,
When I step out I'm gonna do you in
They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man
Top coat, top hat,
And I don't worry 'cause my wallet's fat
Black shades, white gloves,
Lookin' sharp lookin' for love
They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man
